"Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may spend it upon your lusts." -James 4:2-3 KJV
"Out of my distress, I called on Yah. Yah answered me with freedom." -Psalm 118:5 WEB
"And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us." -1 John 5:14 KJV
BELIEVE IN YAH. Address our Heavenly Father, who lovingly instructs His children, for we desperately need Him (Isa 59:1-4, 63:15-16, Ps 103:13, Heb 12:17). "Sing to God (Elohim)! Sing praises to His Name! Extol Him who rides on the clouds: to Yah, His Name! Rejoice before Him! A Father of the fatherless, and a Defender of the widows, is God (Elohim) in His holy (kadosh) habitation." -Psalm 68:4-5 WEB [5-6]
2. HALLOWED (KADOSH) BE THY NAME.
ASCRIBE GREATNESS TO YAH. This is reverent submission which glorifies His Name. (Ps 29:2, Ps 103:1-2). He is holy (kadosh) and we are called to be holy (kadosh) like Him (Lev 11:44, 1 Pet 1:16). We can blaspheme His holy (kadosh) name by our bad witness (Rom 2:24, Isa 52:5, Ezek 36:22). "Because I will publish the Name of YAH*: ascribe ye greatness unto our God (Elohim). He is the Rock, His work is perfect: for all His ways are judgment: a God (Elohim) of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He. They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of His children: they are a perverse and crooked generation. Do ye thus requite YAH*, O foolish people and unwise? Is not He thy Father that hath bought thee? Hath He not made thee, and established thee?" -Deuteronomy 32:3-6
3. THY KINGDOM [MUST NOW] COME,
ASK FOR HIS KINGDOM. In this 'Sermon on the Mount', Rabbi Y'shua taught the ethics of Yah's Kingdom. The Kingdom is made up of truly repentant individuals (Mat 5:3) who pursue His righteousness (Mat 5:10). We want not to simply enter (Mat 25:34) but also be used to build His Kingdom (Acts 1:8, 19:8, 28:23,31). "And as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven (shamayim) is at hand." -Matthew 10:7
4. THY WILL [MUST] BE DONE IN EARTH, AS IT IS IN HEAVEN (SHAMAYIM).
ASK FOR HIS PERFECT WILL. We need the revelation of Yah's Word and Torah (instructions) in our lives (Ps 40:8 , 143:10) being filled with the Holy Spirit, so that we aren't living after the lust of this world (Eph 5:18, Mat 7:21). In praying for His will, you seek to align your desires with His. "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." -Romans 12:2
5. GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD,
ASK FOR HIS DAILY BREAD. Hunger for not just His physical (Prov 30:8, Mat 14:19) but spiritual provision (Isa 1:19, 22:26 , 55:2, Jn 6:35). "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." -Matthew 5:6
6. AND FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS, AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS.
ASK FOR FORGIVENESS OF SINS. The unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of Yah (1 Cor 6:9). Sin is the transgression of the law/Torah (1 Jn 3:4) and separates us from Him (Isa 59:2). Yah loves us so much that He gave His Son (Isa 9:6), Y'shua HaMashiach, as an everlasting atonement for our sins (Rom 3:23, Heb 9:22). If we truly believe in Him and what He has done to make us righteous before God (Isa 53, 2 Cor 5:21) we will have eternal life (John 3:16). If we desire His forgiveness, we will forgive others (1 Jn 2:6). "And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any, so that your Father also which is in heaven (shamayim) may forgive you your trespasses." -Mark 11:25
7. AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
ASK FOR DELIVERANCE. He delivers us out of bondage of sin and sickness (Isa 61:1, Ps 37:40) and leads us into life abundant (Jn 10:10)! "Look thou upon me, and be merciful unto me, as thou usest to do unto those that love thy Name. Order my steps in thy Word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me. Deliver me from the oppression of man: so will I keep thy precepts. Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; and teach me thy statutes." -Psalm 119:132-135
Y'shua HaMashiach (Jesus the Messiah) gave us this model prayer, He is telling us what to ask for. If we ask for the things He tells us to ask for we can have confidence in our prayers (1 Jn 5:14).
